"Have the vision to do, and the heart to share"
On behalf of A.H. Sports, this $1,000 scholarship will be awarded to a junior wheelchair tennis athlete 18 years or younger who lives in the USTA/Midwest Section. It is designed to help with funding for athletes in the pursuit of excellence on the tennis court. This scholarship is established to honor the efforts of Lynn Bender and Hunter Heck who have both been inspirations in the wheelchair tennis community. Like Lynn and Hunter, the recipient should exemplify persistence, passion, integrity, and leadership skills on the tennis court. Additionally, the recipient should also display these traits beyond the court and pursue activities that help inspire and teach growth for wheelchair athletes.
Lynn is a USPTA and USPTR tennis professional who fell into wheelchair tennis coaching and teaching when she married her husband Curt who has been a wheelchair tennis athlete for years. She serves on both the USTA/Midwest and previously USTA National wheelchair committees. Lynn’s passion for wheelchair tennis is what drives her to continue growing the sport.
Hunter is a wheelchair tennis athlete who “found his fire again” through the sport. He possess an internal drive to pursue success without barriers. Hunter spent over two years traveling throughout the Midwest and Southeast competing in tournaments and is committed to helping other wheelchair athletes follow their passion as well.
The deadline for 2022 and all future years will be December 1.
