
Congratulations to our USTA/Midwest team from Columbus, Ohio, for finishing third at the World Team Tennis Junior Nationals which was held from July 26-28 in San Diego, California. Bryan Nibert coached our Midwest squad which included Alexandra Cash, Robert Cash, Jack Dabek, Paige Kompa, Zoey Weil and Jonathan Zhuravel.
Our USTA/Midwest team won its first match against USTA/Hawaii 43-21, second match against USTA/Northern California 37-23, and third match against USTA/Southern California 48-15. Following these first three victories, USTA/Midwest reached the semifinals where the team lost a close match to a second team from USTA/Southern California in overtime 38-33. Our USTA/Midwest team finished the event with a victory against USTA/Texas 36-26 which garnered them a third place finish.
The USTA/Midwest Tennis & Education Foundation provided funding for this team to compete as a team against other teams from around the country. In addition to providing grants to community programs and individual junior players and scholarships to high school seniors, the USTA/Midwest Tennis & Education Foundation also provides funding for Midwest teams to participate in USTA events.
