Glenview teen tennis star Anya Leckerling gets grant to chase her dreams!

Glenview, IL – Meet Anya Leckerling, a 10-year-old tennis whiz from Glenview who’s got her sights set on becoming a pro! She recently scored an MTEF individual grant that’s going to help her get there.

Anya knows that to be the best, you’ve gotta play the best. “I know that getting better at tennis means playing the best players I can,” Anya shared. But playing against top-level competition means traveling to expensive tournaments and staying in hotels far from home. “My parents don’t have a lot of money, so this grant means that I can travel to big tournaments and compete against good players this year. It makes me really happy!” Anya said.

Beyond her powerful serves and lightning-fast volleys, Anya admits that her biggest challenge has been her mindset during tournaments. But she’s got a game plan for that too! “I know my mentality will get better with more experience,” she said, showing how smart she is about her game. This grant isn’t just about money; it’s about getting her more time on the court, building up that mental toughness, and becoming a true champion.

And who’s been by her side through it all? Her fantastic coach, Andrew Hetsko (@ajsko1984)! Coach Andrew has been teaching Anya since she was just six years old. “Coach Andrew cares a lot about me and my tennis and always keeps practice fun,” Anya said with a huge smile. “He has made me a much better tennis player. I’m so happy he’s my coach!” Their awesome bond proves that great coaches do more than just teach; they inspire!

As Anya gets ready for a super exciting year of tournaments, her story is a big hit in Glenview and beyond.
